Microsoft Replaces XBox's That Fail To Read XDG3 Disks.

Even with wide beta testing, Microsoft seem to have missed some units as some users are finding the new XDG3 disk could not be read in their system. One such user, Avery Penn found out and reported to Microsoft. Microsoft responded checked his system via XBox Live (?) and agreed on replacement. This is what he posted  on Redit;

Checking my e-mail earlier today, I found a rather interesting message from Xbox Customer Support, saying that a software update is stopping some Xbox 360s from reading game discs.
Saying they were able to detect this issue over Xbox Live, Microsoft went on to say that, after jumping through all the necessary hoops, they'd send me a brand new Xbox 360 S and a year's free Xbox Live. At this point, my jaw hit the floor.
Then he went and checked with XBox support if the email was real!

Microsoft Europe is now pointing affected users to the support page to get sorted out. One way or another, affected owners can expect to be mollified by getting their Xbox 360s replaced with new 250GB Xbox 360S

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds In Stores Now

SAN MATEO, Calif. — February 15, 2011 — Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, and the legendary Marvel Entertainment, LLC, are proud to announce that Marvel® vs. Capcom ®3: Fate of Two Worlds hits store shelves today in North America for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

Players will take control of their favorite characters from the Marvel and Capcom worlds in an out-of-this-world fighting game experience unlike anything seen before it. The battle begins when legendary villains of two universes conspire to wreak havoc across space and time, unleashing a terrible evil that threatens the existence of an entire civilization. In a desperate fight to survive, the Marvel and Capcom universes collide in a battle royale that will determine the fate of two worlds.

The greatest fighters from both worlds clash in teams of three, as players create their dream-teams from the Marvel and Capcom rosters. The battle is brought to life in an innovative comic book art style, powered by Capcom’s MT Framework®, an advanced version of the graphics engine used for Resident Evil® 5. When the fight goes vertical, fighters launch into the air, exchanging aerial combo attacks in a furious burst of color and light. If the pressure is on, players can call on team members for an “assist” attack that will throw off their opponents, or they can tag out their character for a fresh new warrior. The option for streamlined controls makes the fighter a pleasure to play for all skill levels. For those who seek a challenge, players can take their game online and face-off against opponents around the world.

Popular returning characters include Spider-Man, Ryu, Wolverine, Morrigan, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Felicia, Chun-Li, Tron Bonne, Magneto, Storm, Akuma and Doctor Doom. Crimson Viper, Viewtiful Joe and Zero will make their debut in the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise. New characters joining the playable cast for the first time in fighting game history include Taskmaster, Haggar, She-Hulk, Chris Redfield, Thor, Trish, Super-Skrull, Amaterasu, Dormammu, Wesker, X-23, Arthur, Deadpool, Nathan Spencer, M.O.D.O.K. and Dante!

Microsoft To Delist Under Performing Titles From Xbox Live.

"The way it will work is that the title will need to be at least 6 months old and have a Metacritic score below 65 and a conversion rate below 6% on the service. This way titles are not just considered if they are not selling well or not getting good reviews, but actually a combination of both. We will also give a three-month notice before delisting any title. " said Marc Whitten, Microsoft’s General Manager of Xbox Live answering the questions from Next-Gen. The discussion went on to discuss the merits of such move to keep Xbox Live that is said to be hitting 1 million downloads a day! performing well.
I think it is not a good move as but you might decide otherwise. Read the article at next-gen and let us know!

Console Turf Dominated By Nintendo Wii

According to a post on GamePro, Wii, just in 20 months, surpassed the efforts of Playstations by Sony and Xbox by leaps and bounds. Keep in mind that Xbox had a year of headstart and Sony was leading the console market with it's two generationsof play station.
Speaking to GamePro today Nintendo proclaimed, "After just 20 months, Wii is the new console leader in the US with nearly 10.9 million units."
NPD sales data backs up the claim. Wii moved 666,700 units in the month of June, which is enough to push it over Xbox 360 as the dominant platform in North America.

XBOX LIve To Bring Original Shows This Summer.

Peter Safran, founder of management and production firm the Safran Co., is set to launch Monday a digital media company that has a distribution deal with Microsoft's Xbox Live platform already in place.

Safran Digital Group's first slate of content will be available to Xbox users in the summer. The offerings will be available on the Microsoft product for an exclusive window, which will be negotiated on a project-by-project basis, before going out through other partners.

"We want to make sure that we have the right distribution channels in place," said Safran, CEO of the new company. "We had a very specific idea that we knew worked for a core audience. Xbox clearly has this exact same demographic."

The company plans to launch six short form shows in comedy, horror and sci-fi genres. The content will be monetized via a combination of electronic sell-through and advertising.

Safran and company COO Jake Zim declined to provide specifics on the content, saying only that the talent was "significant" and speaks to Xbox's young-male demographic.
Microsoft launched the Xbox Live Marketplace for movies and TV in 2006, and it has content deals with MGM, Warner Bros., Paramount, Nickelodeon, Fox, Disney, New Line, Lionsgate, Miramax, MTV and Turner Broadcasting.

Safran Digital is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Safran Co.

Gamesave tampering does not pay at XBOX Live!

XBOX Live team have gone postal today against game cheaters. This unexpected but previously warned move has wiped out a lot of peoples game scores. Major Nelson has previously (in 2005) laid out the game ethics for XBOX community but I guess people did not pay attention to it.
Then again he warned and now I saw this post describing the actions taken.
"The steps today takes the form of the following:

• Resetting the entire Gamerscore for an account to zero
• The account will be unable to regain all previously obtained achievements and Gamerscore, however, the players will have the ability to gain future Achievements by earning them fairly, like the majority of the Xbox LIVE community does.
• The account will be clearly labeled as a cheater for the community to view on xbox.com. You can see an example here. In dash, the personal view of the gamercard will be labeled as well. "
